Ako Bicol (AKB) party-list continues to provide relief goods and financial assistance to stranded workers and the religious sector as President Rodrigo Duterte extends the Enhanced Community Quarantine until end-April.

AKB Rep. Elizaldy Co personally distributed cash and relief goods consisting of rice, canned goods and instant noodles to a group of 30 Bicolanos and 20 Taclobanon construction workers stranded in Quezon due to the Luzonwide lockdown. For weeks, the group has been pleading for assistance after being stuck in the barracks of their shuttered construction firm in Barangay Mayhay, Pagbilao, Quezon.

The Bicolano solon promised to facilitate the workers’ trip back home subject to full compliance with the strict protocols laid down by the Department of Health and concerned local government units.

As this developed, Rep. Co said AKB also supports the social welfare programs of religious groups, particularly Catholic churches in Metro Manila, as he thanked them for offering prayers and transforming their facilities into temporary shelters for frontliners and stranded workers.

On Wednesday, Rep. Co delivered boxes of canned goods, instant noodles and sacks of rice to Monasterio Real de Sta. Clara de Manila in Katipunan Ave, Quezon City. Earlier, he gave financial assistance to the Redemptorist Church in Baclaran, Parañaque City for opening its doors and providing temporary shelter to Filipinos who have nowhere to go.

“I’m extremely thankful to the religious sector and our nuns and priests for continuously praying for healing. Like most of our countrymen, they’re also suffering but they continue to help others and offer prayers during these difficult times,” he said.

The solon said AKB will do its best within its limited resources to help those most affected by the pandemic especially stranded Bicolanos in various parts of the country who lost their jobs due to the pandemic.
