Ako Bicol (AKB) party-list led by Rep. Elizaldy S. Co provided much-needed assistance to 43 Bicolano workers stranded in Metro Manila due to the Luzonwide lockdown caused by COVID-19.
Rep. Co personally distributed boxes of COVID 19 test kits, canned goods, instant noodles and five sacks of rice to the stranded workers temporarily sheltered at the Redemptorist Church in Baclaran. Aside from relief goods, each worker also received financial assistance from AKB.
“The rapid test kits we provided will be used for monitoring purposes should any of the workers display symptoms of COVID-19 infection. It will also be used as a diagnostic tool in support of their request for health clearance before they are conditionally allowed to go home to Bicol,” he explained.
Rep. Co thanked the Redemptorist Church for opening its doors and providing temporary shelter to Filipinos who have nowhere to go. As a sign of gratitude, the party-list solon also provided financial assistance to the church to support its social welfare programs.
Speaking with the stranded Bicolanos, Rep. Co said AKB will find a way to provide them proper lodging during the enhanced community quarantine. The party-list will also help facilitate their transfer in compliance with protocols laid down by the Department of Health and the Inter-Agency Task Force.
He said AKB is fully committed to serve Bicolanos in need wherever they may be. The party-list is also supporting national and local government efforts to help the most vulnerable sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“In times of crises, especially when our enemies are literally unknown and unseen, we’re duty-bound to provide our people with immediate and proactive response, while ensuring that no one is left behind, especially the most vulnerable, the poor, the marginalized,” Co stressed.
