AKO BICOL strongly condemns the attack on veteran radio journalist and former Chairman of Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas-Albay Chapter Hermogenes “Jun” Alegre.
Further, AKO BICOL zealously manifests its unity with other media and non-government organizations in condemning efforts to stifle press freedom in the Bicol region.
While freedom of speech, expression, and the press is protected by our Constitution, it is alarming that there are moves to intimidate the free press into silence.
We, at AKO BICOL, demand an end to this culture of violence against journalists and media workers in the region. Thus, we will continue to seek justice for journalists killed in and threatened because of the call of duty.
AKO BICOL will exert all efforts to uphold the freedom of the press, freedom of expression, and the democratic rights of its constituents in the region, because it firmly believes that the truth shall set us free.
DEPENSAHAN AN FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION. PUNDUHON NA AN PAGTAKOT SA MGA JOURNALIST!
