Our very own Rep. Rodel M. Batocabe was nominated as a regular member representing the Philippines of the Asian Parliamentarian Standing Committee on Ageing.
In the inaugural meeting held in Hanoi last September, Batocabe actively participated in discussions concerning pressing issues of growing ageing populations, elderly concerns, and socioeconomic impacts of ageing.
Rep Batocabe joined other Members of Parliament from the Asia-Pacific Region and experts from the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the Asian Development Bank, HelpAge International, the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research, and the UNFPA Asia and the Pacific.
Rep. Batocabe is no stranger to the welfare and causes of the more senior members of Filipino society. Earlier this year, he filed a bill lowering the optional retirement age and the senior citizens’ age to 56, bills which, if passed, allows early access to benefits granted under the law, enabling the older population to live in relative comfort.
