AKO BICOL Lauds CAAP for Improved Airport Operations in Legazpi

AKO BICOL Party-list Representative Christopher Co commended the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines’s (CAAP) efforts in improving the Legazpi Airport, which will now operate from 5:30 AM to 9:30 PM starting October 1, 2016.

“After the long wait and the public clamor for longer operating hours, I am glad the CAAP has finally allowed the Legazpi Airport to stay open longer, to the benefit of both Bicolanos and people wishing to visit the Bicol region”, said Co, “Bicolanos’s lives have improved in such way that they can now afford air transport to facilitate their travels in and out of Bicol, and the extension of the operating hours furthers that improvement.”

The Legazpi Airport used to accommodate only morning flights, leaving the rest of those wishing to travel by plane to wait for the next set of flights in the morning or to take hours of travel via bus. For example, a standard bus ride from Cubao to Legazpi usually lasts 10 to 12 hours on a good day. The extension of operation hours facilitates all travel to and from Legazpi, in effect improving the Bicol region’s economic and tourism landscape.

“Several studies of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) support the conclusion that improved air transport leads to economic growth”, said Co, “I am excited at the prospect of improved transactions and the increase in number of tourists once the extended operating hours are implemented”.
